To say that I'm excited about the upcoming Ghostbusters game would be an understatement. To put it quite frankly - I'm a Ghostbusters nerd. I still have an extensive collection of action figures from the movie and cartoons, and have dressed up in the jumpsuit (proton pack included) on numerous occasions.  To be honest, I've never been able to look at a Ballroom since the first time I saw Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd take down Slimer.

That's why my heart sank this morning when I read the news that Sony had acquired the publishing rights to the upcoming title, thus securing it has a timed exclusive for the PS3 and PS2 to coincide with the film's upcoming 25th anniversary Blu-ray release. The "official" word was that Xbox 360 and Wii owners would have to wait until later this year to bust some ghosts.

Not so fast.

Thankfully, Atari was quick to clear up the confusion. As it turns out, only those gamers in PAL territories will have to wait longer, as the Sony's publishing deal has absolutely no effect on the game's North American release.  Atari's CEO Jim Wilson issued the following statement:

"Ghostbusters: The Video Game is one of our most significant worldwide releases this summer. Through Atari's North America publishing business and alongside our partners at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, we have a strategically diversified approach to maximize a title of this magnitude on a global basis," said Wilson.

Phew. That was close.

I hate it when one of the consoles gets a game before the others, always takes away from the eventual launch of the game on the other consoles. GP's article says they're still not sure whether it will be a timed exclusive in NA or not, but I hope they don't follow suit. I can't wait to play it!

PAL is the term used for the publication region that consists mostly of Asia, Africa, South America, Australia and certain parts of Europe.
