This week we see everything from history's favorite mop-tops to time traveling and racing. Hit the jump for more on this week's new releases and what you should...and shouldn't be playing.
The Beatles: Rock Band
9-9-09
After a long build-up, the biggest band in the history of music gets the plastic guitar treatment. In a recent survey 89% of Americans said they listened to The Beatles, combine that with the huge audience that already plays Rock Band and this one's going to make a ton of money. We'll have the official XBFF review this week; but we as Beatle fans couldn't get enough of the game on our recent play through. And come on -- it's The Beatles...seriously.
Our advice: Buy it
Raiden IV
9-8-09
If you like the other Raiden games, odds are you're going to like Raiden IV which takes the side-scrolling shooter action the franchise is known for and amps it up. Honestly, it's a bit puzzling why the game is getting a retail release -- it seems much more suited for an XBLA title.
Our Advice: Rent it
Darkest of Days
9-8-09
Darkest of Days has quite the interesting premise. Rather than your typical war FPS, you travel through time to protect some of histories most important figures. I'm digging the fact that killing certain people will have an adverse effect on your world, past and present. What's going to make or break Darkest of Days is how solid of FPS it truly is.
Our Advice: Rent it
IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey
9-8-09
Dylan went hands on with Birds of Prey last month and liked the game and from what we've seen so far from the boxed version -- things only get better. The battles in Birds of Prey are incredibly dramatic, and playing online is quite fun. We haven't had a great action oriented flight-sim like this in a while, pick it up, you won't regret it.
Our advice: Buy it
Dirt 2
9-8-09
The original Dirt surprised a lot of people with just how in-depth and fun it was, but can Codemasters do it again? Amping up the amount of challenges and real-world evironments, Dirt 2 looks to step up its game from the original. One things for sure, with realistic car damage and some cool effectsthe game looks amazing -- I just worry it won't be able to live up to the original.
Our Advice: Rent it
Capcom: Platinum Hits Triple Pack
9-8-09
This one is a no-brainer. 3 great games -- one low price. If you havn't had a chance to pick up Dead Rising, Lost Planet or Devil May Cry 4 -- you're prayers have been answered.
